Music Director and founder of the Montreal Intercultural Orchestra (OIM-MIO), Dr. Silvia Tabor commands a wide-ranging repertoire spanning baroque to contemporary epochs, symphonic and chamber literature, as well as full-scale opera and ballet productions.
Under her baton, the Montreal Intercultural Orchestra has mounted ambitious, critically received programs featuring monumental masterworks such as Igor Stravinsky’s The Rite of Spring, Sergei Rachmaninov’s Cantata Spring, and Boris Pigovat’s Holocaust Requiem, along with captivating scores by Debussy, Ravel, Rimsky-Korsakov, Bizet, Mussorgsky, Beethoven, Enescu, Pozdnyakov, Szymanowski, and Karlowicz, frequently premiering works by living contemporary composers.

Scholarly Credentials & Training
Following her formative studies at the Št. Neaga College of Music (Music Theory) and the Academy of Music, Theatre and Fine Arts in Chișinău, Moldova, Silvia relocated to Montreal, Canada, earning her Master of Music in Orchestral Conducting from McGill University.
She subsequently earned her Doctorate in Orchestral Conducting (D.Mus.) from the Université de Montréal, where her doctoral dissertation investigated Opera Boris Godunov — The Value of Musorgsky’s Original Orchestration and the Importance of Rimsky-Korsakov’s and Shostakovich’s Re-orchestrations.
In 2010, Dr. Tabor was awarded the prestigious Special Prize of the National Philharmonic of Moldova “Serghei Lunchevici” in the International Orchestral Conducting Competition. Her development has been supported by substantial grants and scholarships from the Canada Council for the Arts and the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec.
